Dr. Isabel Fernández Conejero

Co-director

Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1998, she specialized in Clinical Neurophysiology at the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB) in 2002. Subsequently, she completed a fellowship program in the Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring Unit at the Hyman-Newman Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York (June 2006 – November 2008), under the guidance of Dr. Vedran Deletis, a pioneer in the development of the most advanced intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring techniques.

In 2009, she designed and currently leads the Intraoperative Neurophysiology Unit at Bellvitge Hospital. Additionally, in 2024, she will be the president and organizer of the IX Congress of the International Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology (ISIN), a major event she also chaired and organized during its III edition in Barcelona in 2011.

Throughout her career, she has actively contributed to the writing of book chapters and articles on cutting-edge neurophysiological techniques, including the development of corticobulbar motor evoked potentials of the cricothyroid muscle, vocal cords, and intraoperative studies of language areas.

From 2019 to 2022, she held the position of president of the ISIN and is currently the past president and a member of the executive board. Additionally, she regularly serves as a reviewer for high-impact scientific journals in her field.

She currently leads a training program for neurophysiology and neurology residents at various hospitals in Spain and coordinates a scholarship program for neurology specialists from Europe and South America. She is also the director of the intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring module in the biennial Master’s in Neurological Electrophysiology at the University of Barcelona, in the editions of 2009, 2011, and 2013.
